Folding Wood Book Stand
Folding Wood Book Stand
This antique folding wood book stand with a shield-shaped silhouette and scrolling shoulders is inspired by medieval and Gothic design. Crafted using edge-glued hardwood lamination, which is a construction method that reduces warping and splitting, the stand reflects both thoughtful craftsmanship and long-term functionality. Designed to both display and store with ease, the stand folds flat when not in use and opens to support a book at a readable angle. The piece likely dates to the 19th or early 20th century.
This stand would be especially well suited for displaying a cookbook in a kitchen, or a large volume on a desk or shelf.
Materials: Lighter woods are maple or beech, medium tones are cherry or birch, and darker sections are walnut.
Dimensions: 18” H × 13” W x 12.5" D (open)
There is significant surface scratching and wear, particularly to the feet, consistent with regular use over time. The handle shows a complete break that has been repaired; the stand should not be lifted, carried, or stored by hanging from the handle. Please inspect item photos carefully for condition.
