Wood and Ormolu Frame
Wood and Ormolu Frame
This French neoclassical style frame, dating to the early 20th century, features a richly toned wood surround adorned with finely cast ormolu mounts. The decorative elements include winged griffins at each corner, a central laurel wreath flanked by two classical female figures holding garlands, and a small classical urn at the base. A continuous beaded and foliate border frames the outer edges. The combination of figural, mythological, and architectural motifs reflects the refined elegance of the Louis XVI aesthetic. The frame has a hole on the back to hang from a nail.
Material: wood; ormolu (gilt bronze mounts)
Dimensions: 8.5" W × 11.5" H; holds 5" W × 8" H art
The frame is in good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, including light surface wear to the wood and patina and gilt loss to the mounts. The border mount at the top left is misshapen and has a nail breaking the surface from the back. New glass and backing, vintage book plate for display. Please inspect item photos carefully for condition.
